What Are You Reading Wednesday- 1/31/2018

Hello Lovelies,

Firstly, let me just say… I’m terribly sorry I have been MIA for the past few weeks. I have been so overwhelmed with work, sick kids and trying to “stay on the wagon” with my whole diet and work out routine to be able to even think straight. Then, my grandfather sadly passed away last weekend. It wasn’t sudden and we knew it was coming but it still put me under a cloud of depression. It has just been a terrible start to what I hope to be a wonderful year and I have felt no desire to blog or spread any kind of joy anywhere. Seriously… I’ve been a grump from Hell. Bah Humbug to all happiness, smiles, cute puppies and beautiful scenery. I hated it all… BUT I’m back to semi-normal and am trying to get my blog back on track along with my personality. Please forgive me my sabbatical! On to the post… ❤

What Are You Reading Wednesday was created by Rhianna, Marissa, and Kendall. The idea is to create a space for book lovers to share, discuss, and recommend the books they are currently reading and loving. All you have to do is answer the questions about your current read and then head over to one of the host’s sites to link up your post! Have fun and don’t forget to check out everyone’s posts as well!

THE NITTY-GRITTY
Share the book/s you are reading with their author, maybe even the cover, and then answer these questions for at least one of them
1. Why did you decide to pick up this book–cover or content?
2. Who is your favorite character so far, and why?
 3. Will you finish this one?
4. Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of…(other books, movies, tv shows…)
5. What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down…)

10576365The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

1. Why did you decide to pick up this book- cover or content?

Mostly content. I was searching Audible for my next audio book to listen to and it was recommended to me based on my previous purchases. I liked the synopsis a lot and read reviews that raved about it.

2. Who is your favorite character so far, and why?

Liam! He is the love interest and one of the traveling companions of the main character, Ruby. I love that he is sweet, has a southern accent and is from North Carolina (like me!). He has a dark past that he tries to hide but it is obvious that he is one of the good guys. Also, my son’s name is Liam and I adore it.

3. Will you finish this one?

Absolutely! I struggle not to put in my headphones while I’m at work just so I can listen to a few more chapters! Listening just in the car is not enough now.

4. Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of…(other books, movies, tv shows…)

This book reminds me of the X-Men series. The children in the United States, under the age of 15, all suddenly contracted a “disease” called IAAN and were either killed by it or survived and manifested abilities. These children were taken from their families by the government, because they feared them, and placed in concentration camps, essentially. It definitely follows the same theme of MUTANTS being terrorized because of fear.

5. What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down…)

INTERESTING but be warned it started out a little slow because the author had to pack quite a bit of backstory and set the scene for downtrodden America, the cause and effect of the “sickness” on the kids, parents and economy. BUT it is worth it and picks up quickly!

** This is the first in a series! Check it out. I’ll be posting a review soon.
