Hello fellow bibliophiles!

If you are just now tuning in Mersadies from Between the Bindings and I are doing a “25 Books of Christmas” blog event together! We are alternating days and will post a book each day that either has a Christmas theme or is just a great read for the holidays. We are going to try to include as many different genres as possible to have great options for everyone. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy this great holiday read!

Day Seventeen

Published April 30th 2013

Genre: Horror

“Victoria McQueen has a secret gift for finding things: a misplaced bracelet, a missing photograph, answers to unanswerable questions. On her Raleigh Tuff Burner bike, she makes her way to a rickety covered bridge that, within moments, takes her wherever she needs to go, whether it’s across Massachusetts or across the country.

Charles Talent Manx has a way with children. He likes to take them for rides in his 1938 Rolls-Royce Wraith with the NOS4A2 vanity plate. With his old car, he can slip right out of the everyday world, and onto the hidden roads that transport them to an astonishing – and terrifying – playground of amusements he calls “Christmasland.”

Then, one day, Vic goes looking for trouble—and finds Manx. That was a lifetime ago. Now Vic, the only kid to ever escape Manx’s unmitigated evil, is all grown up and desperate to forget. But Charlie Manx never stopped thinking about Victoria McQueen. He’s on the road again and he’s picked up a new passenger: Vic’s own son.”

This novel is not from this year BUT it absolutely is the most perfect holiday read for horror fans! I LOVED this book SO much! I wanted to scream it from the rooftops after I read it. I recommended it to all of my friends and forced my husband to live the plot with me as I was reading. I do not know how to describe how truly amazing this book is.

Joe Hill has made a wonderfully fantastical and horrible world to be immersed in and his protagonist and antagonist are GOLD! Vic is not your typical heroine. She has flaws…lots of them. She has never recovered from her childhood encounter with Charlie Manx and it soured every good thing she had going for her in life. Charlie Manx is a true nightmare. Creepy, immortal pedophile with a magic car to take you to another dimension?? SHUDDER! Please read this book if you haven’t already. You will not regret it!
