What Are You Reading Wednesday

What are you reading wednesday

What Are You Reading Wednesday was created by Rhianna, Marissa, and Kendall. The idea is to create a space for book lovers to share, discuss, and recommend the books they are currently reading and loving. All you have to do is answer the questions about your current read and then head over to one of the host’s sites to link up your post! Have fun and don’t forget to check out everyone’s posts as well!

THE NITTY-GRITTY
Share the book/s you are reading with their author, maybe even the cover, and then answer these questions for at least one of them
1. Why did you decide to pick up this book–cover or content?
2. Who is your favorite character so far, and why?
3. Will you finish this one?
4. Finish the sentence: This book reminds me of…(other books, movies, tv shows…)
5. What type of read is this one? (slow but interesting, cannot put it down…)

MY CURRENT READ

meddling kids

I had been dying to read this ever since I discovered it in October! From the synopsis and what I have read so far, it is in a nutshell a twisted and creepy adult Scooby Doo.

The novel follows a group of rag tag teenage detectives that grew up to be either institutionalized, working dead end jobs, stalking old criminals or just plain dead. Apparently, their last case royally screwed them up but they have never talked about it since that date. Now, the guy they put away is out of prison and one of the group, Andrea wants answers!

It is not the traditional Scooby Doo characters but their types are similar to the classic. Pretty but tough girl Andrea, whom I strongly suspect is a lesbian and in love with the super smart, redheaded Kerri. Tim, the hyper Weimaraner. Nate, the horror nerd and now institutionalized member because he keeps seeing the last member of the group, Peter, the handsome jock and team leader turned movie star, but unfortunately for everyone also dead.

What a crew! I cannot wait to delve deeper into this mystery!

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO PICK UP THIS BOOK- COVER OR CONTENT?

BOTH! Abso-freaking-lutely! The cover is amazingly cool and the picture on here does not even do it justice. The colors are SO much brighter in person. Okay, pretty much everything about the cover is awesome. Their childhood silhouettes on the huge full moon and the creepy tentacles rising up out of the lake. GAH! LOVE.

When I read the synopsis I just couldn’t wait to get it in my hands. I loved Scooby Doo and I love Horror/Mystery. This book could not be more perfect for me.

WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE CHARACTER SO FAR, AND WHY?

Well I’m still in the first fifth of the book so I imagine this might change as I go along but I am going to say my favorite character is Kerri. She is a smart, petite orange haired beauty that works as a bartender even though she has a BA in Biology. She is kind and sweet but also a little bit of a “scaredy cat”. I am excited to see how her smarts play into solving the mystery ahead.

WILL YOU FINISH THIS ONE?

Definitely! If it was not for the holiday and this pesky thing called work I probably would be finished with it already.

THIS BOOK REMINDS ME OF…

Scooby Doo adventures, obviously. I’ve mentioned that ten times already but it is meant to be a reimagining of the loved childhood cartoon. Also, the names of places in this novel are fun. They are travelling back to the town of Blyton Hills in ZOINX River Valley and the asylum that Nate checked himself into is in ARKHAM, Nebraska. I’m sure Shaggy and Batman would approve. I sure do.

WHAT KIND OF READ IS THIS ONE? (SLOW BUT INTERESTING, CAN’T PUT IT DOWN… ETC)

CAN’T PUT IT DOWN (soon). I’m having a hard time getting as far as I want in the story but that has nothing to do with the plot development or the writing. So far, I think both are fantastic and the only reason I haven’t gotten farther along is because of holidays and life. I plan on reading this well into the night tonight because the two females and canine are on a road trip to break the loony male out of the asylum and head to Blyton Hills. I imagine things are about to get pretty interesting!! “Rikes!”

  1. Haha! I’m glad that you’re enjoying this one, Meggy! I was real excited about this when I first heard of it as well, although I’m a little skeptic now; one of my friends DNF’d it because there were some problems near the end. I look forward to seeing what you think, though!

Also, I really want to watch old Scooby-Doo cartoons now!! 😀
