Fall Activities Book Tag

Hey guys, this is my first book tag! Ah, I know, I’m so excited! I adore Autumn and everything that comes with it. And in keeping with this theme, I incorporated many of my favorite authors into this post. It is a true representation of who I am as a reader.  It was great fun and I hope you enjoy it.

Shout out to Dani with Mousaibookscom for the tag! Or more appropriately, allowing me to tag myself.

Apple Picking

“A book on your TBR that looks so great you can’t wait to get into it”

26032825 The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

My all time favorite author is back with another story from Modern Tales of Faerie and I could NOT be MORE EXCITED! I squealed when I found out about The Cruel Prince. I missed this universe so much for the past ten years. How Black writes these urban fey novels is so absolutely beautiful, intriguing and heart breaking. The only problem now is that this novel doesn’t come out until January 2! I have it pre-ordered but it is going to feel like an eternity!

Corn Maze

“A book to get lost in”

The Night Huntress Series by Jeaniene Frost

This isn’t just one novel! This is an entire universe created by Frost that start with roughly 13 novels (if you include the novellas in between) about Cat and Bones. Then, there are multiple spin-off series; Night Huntress World Series and the Night Prince Series. These books are addicting and you will get lost for weeks or even months once you crack the first page on Halfway to the Grave! I liked them so much that I’ve read all of them TWICE! So get ready to shut the doors and close the blinds… you got some reading to do.

Haunted Houses

“A book that scares you”

The Doll House by Phoebe Morgan

This one is a debut novel from a new author! I really enjoyed the creep factor in this book. It kept me on edge and holding my breath a couple times. Check out my recent review of it here.

Pumpkin Patch

“The latest book you picked up/purchased”

51mCHbI+NALA Court of Thorns and Roses Book # 4 by Sarah J. Maas

I just pre-ordered the four installment of A Court of Thorns and Roses series! It doesn’t come out until May 2018. What is wrong with me? They haven’t even released the cover or the title for heaven’s sake! That should give you some indication of how strongly I feel about this series! I would probably give a limb, or at least a digit… okay definitely my last reeses cup to whomever can get me an ARC of this book. You have plenty of time to catch up and get on my level. Pick up the first novel: A Court of Thorns and Roses so we can geek out together!

Scenic Drives

“A book that is lyrically beautiful”

The Language of Thorns: Midnight Tales and Dangerous Magic by Leigh Bardugo

Okay, I have not read this one yet BUT I have heard wonderful things about this book and the awe inducing way it is written. I have it to read. I know it’s going to be amazing! I mean, just look at how gorgeous the cover is!

Pumpkin Carving

“A book you disliked so much you would carve it up”

30th Century Escape by Mark Kingston Levin

This was a really hard one to answer for a couple reasons. One, I try to see most of the books I read in a positive light and give constructive criticism so its tough to pick one that I just hated. Two, if a book is really that bad I just won’t finish it. I’ve got better things to read, ya know what I’m sayin’? And Three, if it wasn’t good I usually do not even remember it. However, I read this one fairly recently and it is burned in my brain. I’m putting it up here because it was one of the first ARCs I received from Netgalley and I put everything I had into reading it which was a God’s honest struggle. I could not even finish it unfortunately. It made me question whether reading through Netgalley was even something I was wanting to continue if this was the sort of precident the other novels would follow… Thank God that was not true and I stuck it out. Love them now. Read my full review here if you are interested.

Drinking Apple Cider

“A sweet book to curl up with”

The Hidden Legacy Series by Ilona Andrews

Now, I do not read anything sweet in the universally accepted forms. Coming of age stories or sickly sweet romance novels just don’t appeal to me. The Hidden Legacy Series is my perfect blend of supernatural urban fantasy and earth shattering romance. The chemistry between Nevada Baylor, private detective, and the sexy, dangerous Connor “Mad” Rogan is so electric! I guess you could say these novels are sweet… They will also melt your panties off. I could not put these novels down and I’m always wishing there was more!

Jumping Into a Leaf Pile

“A book that reminds you of your childhood”

meddling kidsMeddling Kids by Edgar Cantero

I unfortunately haven’t read this yet! I AM CHOMPING at the bit to get to it. It’s in line behind a couple I’ve got set up to read and review. BUT I most definitely will be reading this book for me! As a kid I loved Scooby Doo. I watched Scooby Doo the series, them as kids and teenagers. I watched Scooby Doo, live action with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. (my childhood heart throb).  Even now, I force my children to watch them just so I can. This is the grownups Scooby Doo. A dark twist on the childhood crime solving gang. I already know I’m going to LOVE it!

Scary Movie Night

“your favorite spooky read”

Nos4A2 by Joe Hill is one of my all time favorite spooky reads. The heroine is the imperfect, foul-mouthed, badass gem of my literary dreams. I heart her so hard! And, as great as the protagonist is in this novel, the villain really is the far spectrum creature of nightmares! It’s the perfect read for the holidays as the creepy, supernaturally strong, pedophilia old man and his demon car wraith just want to take you to Christmasland. A place with that name can’t be too terrible… Can it? (evil grin)

Costume Party

“A book with an eclectic cast of characters”

The Daughter of Smoke & Bone Trilogy  by Laini Taylor

I loved this trilogy! Taylor really brought this world alive with her writing and these characters were definitely unforgettable. My “Costume Party” pick is perfect for these Chimeras in their adjacent dimension to ours. Nothing like a costume party where not only can you change your mask but you can change your face! Taylor created an incredibly unique story and universe. Karou with her natural blue hair is heroic and brave and probably my favorite single character of all time! Read these!
